Border Areas Development Programme(BADP)
- BADP which till 2015-16 was 100% centrally funded now classified as Core Centrally Sponsored scheme with funding pattern by Centre & State Government at the ratio 90:10 is taken –up for meeting the special developmental needs of the people living in the remote of inaccessible areas of the international boundary with Bangladesh & Bhutan.
- Preference is given to villages which are initially located within 0-10 km from the International border.
- Various developmental projects justified from both development & security points of view have been taken up under the BADP and topmost priority is being given to good network connectivity covering the entire international boundary areas of Assam.
- The programme covers 9 districts of Assam viz. Dhubri, Baksa, Tamulpur, Chirang, Kokrajhar, Udalguri, South Salmara Mankachar, Karimganj, & Cachar.
- Simanta Gyan Aahoran Asoni : The Simanta Gyan Aahoran Asoni is a programme planned under BADP for exchange of knowledge and skills & HRD related activities for the students from urban areas by promoting tours to and home stay for these urban students in the border villages, in collaboration with the Education Department, Assam.
- Model Villages : The development of Model village in border areas under the BADP has been taken up keeping in mind the standard of living of people in border areas and the need for better connectivity, better food security, better civic infrastructure such as health, education, water supply & sanitation. The Model village is to be developed by making a cluster of villages around a nucleus village and connecting these surrounding villages by all weather roads. The nucleus village would be the Model Village and in due course of time, model village will be centre of socio-economic activities & employment opportunities will be available to its residents as well as the residents of the cluster villages.
